What's the difference?

Graduation is the process of officially completing your degree or certificate. After you submit a graduation petition, the Office of Admissions & Records reviews your academic record to verify that all requirements are met and your degree can be awarded.

Commencement is the ceremony that celebrates your accomplishment. It's where you'll cross the stage, be recognized by name, and celebrate your success with classmates, family, and friends. Students who are approved for graduation are invited to participate.
